On Friday, April 29, 2005, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mayor Manny Díaz, hosted a blood drive at Miami City Hall.
Said Ros-Lehtinen, "Blood is in constant demand in our country. The U.S. population is approximately 295,926,676 (U.S. Census Bureau), and only about 8 million people donate blood each year. We need more donors urgently. Just one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives, and you can be a hero giving the gift of life to someone in need. Any of us, or someone who we love could be this "someone in need."
With the help of Community Blood Centers of South Florida, the people of Miami gave generously to assist those in need of life-saving blood, and blood products.
Community Blood Centers of South Florida, Inc. provides over 75% of the blood transfusion needs for Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. CBCSF has been providing hospitals and other healthcare facilities with blood and blood products since 1975, and currently operates 18 donor centers in the quad-county area.
